Introduction
- This information is intended to support hospital doctors prescribing methadone for chronic pain under the supervision of the Palliative Care Team.
- Methadone is unlicensed for use in pain and the patient’s GP would not normally be asked to take on prescribing.
- This guideline may however also serve as a useful GP reference if one of their patients is maintained on methadone by the Palliative Care Team.
